Fitness Friday: The Start of Something New

I am just going to start out by saying, I know what you are thinking “Oh she is just another girl who is going to try to talk about fitness like she has been doing it for years!”

And my response to that, you couldn’t be any further from the TRUTH! I absolutely, 1000% hate physical activity of any kind, especially sweating! To be honest, I still to this day, don’t know how I got through those 14 years of playing softball.

But in all seriousness, I know that those negative feelings are just a little obstacle that I will have to overcome to be able to reach the bigger goal that I have set for myself. But wait, where is this all coming from? Why all of a sudden do I care about the amount of physical activity that I partake in on a daily basis?

Flashback to last night:

Kyle: “Hey you keep putting my scale away girl!”

Me: “Umm yeah I should have chucked that thing the moment it set foot inside this house!”

Kyle steps on the scale and smiles.

I step on the scale and feel like chucking it out the window!

HELLO SAMANTHA! That was your first mistake.

I couldn’t believe what I saw. I was even feeling a little bit “lighter” after trying to change-up my diet. Nope. That is not what the scale said. So I shoved that evil scale back into the closet and huffed away, like I showed it who was boss or something, PSSHT!

Once I was in bed, I started thinking about why that made me so upset. I definitely do not consider my self anywhere near “fat”. Although there seem to have been those days when I feel less than amazing but what other woman doesn’t?

But if I am being honest with myself, I have been noticing that my clothes do not fit the way they used too. So initially when I saw that number, it was sort of like reinforcing those feelings that I have been trying to not let bother me. Those feelings of guilt and anger that I have let myself feel this way. I strive to be nothing short of happy and thankful for the life I have and to let a number on the scale provoke such thoughts made me feel sick.

And that is EXACTLY why I got so upset. I do NOT want to feel that way! I do NOT want a number on a scale to be the deciding factor of whether or not I am happy or upset that day. I KNOW that I am better than that!

So I decided that I am going to do something about it. Starting this Monday, August 27th, I am challenging myself to participate in some form of physical activity that I do not already encounter in my everyday routine. I already know that I will be getting a little bit of exercise from walking around campus and at work.

Luckily for me, I have one of the best motivators in the world, who I know will just eat it up if I give him the opportunity to actually hold me accountable for something. *cough, cough Kyle* Seriously though, the guy deserves a lot of credit. He sure has experienced the ups and downs of my weight gain right along with me. In the four years we have been together, I know have a gained a significant amount of weight for only being 4 feet, 11 inches but he has never once told me that I wasn’t beautiful!

So how long is this going to last? Honestly, I have no freaking clue! Since I am starting at the beginning of the semester I HOPE I can make it until the end! Of course that is going to take us all the way into December and going out and exercising in the cold is not looking to fun right at the moment!

I hope to use my Friday posts not only as an accountability guide but also to help other people who might be feeling the same way. Lets face it, I will take all the support and encouragement I can get! I also want to apologize in advance if you are still reading this post and rolling your eyes. I promise this is NOT going to be the heart and soul of my blog. But it this has been a goal that I have had set for myself for a while and I guess you could say that last night was the “straw that broke the camels back” for me.

So please, if any of you have any tips, tricks, or would like to share any personal experiences I am ALL EARS! 🙂

Thank you for stopping by!

Hello and Welcome to FromSingletoSmitten! My name is Samantha and I am so happy that you have decided to stop by and check out my blog 🙂 I hope to continue updating at least 3x/week. Please feel free to check out my “About Me” page for a quick little bio and to stop back regularly to see what else is new.

For my first post I thought it would be fitting to join in on Show and Tell Monday over at Becky’s Blog. After all, if you could not tell, I took inspiration from her name to create my blog title. Please be sure to check her out and all of the other bloggers who have linked up!

Question #1: If you were searching for a home now, tell me what would be on your “MUST” list

Well since Kyle and I just moved into our first place together we have since made some mental notes of things that we would like to have in our next place. For example:

  • At least a 2 car garage. He has been dying to have a place to work on his “projects” in and the rental that we have only has the room to fit one car.
  • definitely an entire room dedicated to laundry. As much as I despise doing it, I know that I am going to need that room so that if ever I get sick of looking at it, all I have to do is shut the door and my worries are temporarily out of the way.
  • Privacy fence in the backyard. The more and more I look at where we live and the fact that many house are so close together, I would almost need to have a privacy fence. I think that it would be nice for if you had a pool or a spacious yard for entertaining.
  • Finished basement. I think realistically we are more likely to find a finished basement than the 5+ rooms that we would need to accommodate our wants/needs. Plus I know that Kyle has had his eye on some home theater rooms for quite some time now and that would be a perfect place for him to have it.
  • Lastly I would like to have an easily accessible kitchen. To be honest, this room does not really rank that high on my list of “must haves”. I know that a lot of people have said that a kitchen can make or break a house but I’m not so sure I believe that. (I’m sure that if you asked me in 4+ years from now when we have our own house it might be different) All I know is I would just like something that serves our families basic needs and is easy for me to use.

Question #2: Show me your favorite room in a home {either your home, or any home, i.e. kitchen}

Our Bedroom ❤

I know it doesn’t look like much but I am just in love with the pattern in our bedspread. Surprisingly this is the one room in the house that turned into something completely different from what I had planned. But it all worked out for the better because Kyle and I agreed on most everything in this room. (that almost never happens!)

Question #3: If you could have any room redone, tell me which one would it be and what would you like done?

Since we do live in a rental, it would not be smart of us to invest a lot of money into something we would not be able to keep forever. But if I had to choose any one room in our house for us to FINISH putting together, it would be the second bedroom. For the first few months we have lived here everything that did not have a place went into that room. It has slowly but surely been emptied out but we still don’t have anything hanging on the walls or a general theme in that room. Quite frankly that part is driving me nuts :/

Question #4: Tell me where your favorite stores are to shop for home decor.

Well fortunately for me my mom is the queen of home decor shopping. I swear she finds the neatest things and from all different places too! Since she is quite the collector a lot of our home furnishings just came from things that she was not using in her house. The pieces that I did have to purchase though came mostly from Kirklands, Wal-Mart, Target, and garage sales. We were on such a tight budget when it came to decorating that even if I found something really plain I would pick it up in hopes to spruce it up in the future!

Question #5: Show me your dream home {it can be your home, if you already have your dream home}

The house from The Notebook ❤

Oh my lanta was that a beautiful house! I love the architecture and design of the home plus the wrap around porch almost makes my heart skip a beat! It is so breath taking to me!

Well that is it for my first contribution to Show & Tell Mondays! Thanks to FromMrstoMama for the questions and post!  I hope that you all will stick with me while I get this blog up and running. I promise it will be worth the wait ❤
